| Country Walks |
| |
| Country walks were
singled out far from the main roads, noise and large urban centres, offer
everyone the possibility to walk from one village to another, without
the risk of taking dead ends or wrong turns; but the certainty of
following the correct route. This of course does not mean the shortest
route but the most interesting or panoramic one. These walks will
lead you among lemon and olive groves along mule - tracks and pathways,
through chestnut and oak woods, passing ancient hamlets, and large
uninhabited areas of Mediterranean scrub, calcareous walls along
the headland, archaeological remains, Saracen towers and beauty
spots. |

| Through woods, valleys
and innovated peaks, even the most experienced walkers used to alpine
and Appenine routes, could not help being enchanted by the wonderful
panorama which unites the mountains and the sea with splendid views
i of the Lattari mountains and the bays of Naples and Salerno with
their islands, islets and rocks. All the pathways are marked with
bi-coloured lines, less evident along the fixed routes and more
evident where different pathways meet. |

| It is not possible to list all
the beauty spots of the Massa territory, and so we only make note
of the natural rural characteristics of: the terraced olive groves
limited by the white dry stone walls, the citrus grove pergolas
covered with straw matting, the tuff - stone buildings with their
classic arches and external staircase. In the less developed areas
is a wide variety of natural vegetation which grows not only in
the scrub zones but also along the ridges alongside the pathways
and in gaps in the walls, not to mention the excellent examples
of ecclesiastical architecture, the numerous country houses built
centuries ago in the various districts, which are evidence of past
historical times, notable archaeological remains (roman and greek)
and even remains of the paleolithic age. |
